Ministry Assessments
About Assessment Tools
These assessment tools, developed by Barnabas Group Kansas City and partner organizations, help ministry leaders evaluate organizational strengths and identify opportunities for growth and improvement. For the most comprehensive results, we recommend that multiple members of your leadership team complete each assessment. Additional tools will be added over time.

Overall Ministry Assessment
The Overall Ministry Assessment provides a high-level evaluation of your organization’s effectiveness across key operational and leadership areas. It helps identify strengths while highlighting opportunities for additional training or improvement.
The assessment examines:
Marketing
Board Governance
Donor Engagement
Operations
Information Technology
The results provide an overall organizational profile and can help determine whether a more detailed assessment in a specific area would be beneficial.
Comprehensive Board Governance Assessment
The Comprehensive Board Governance Assessment provides an in-depth evaluation of your ministry’s governance practices and board effectiveness.
The assessment covers:
Foundations of Board Structure
Executive Leadership
Board Committees
Board Meetings
Board Policies
Strategic and Budget Planning
Fundraising
Other Characteristics of Effective Governance
We recommend that every voting board member complete this assessment annually. When creating the survey, you will specify the number of expected respondents. After all participants have completed the assessment, an aggregated summary report will be generated and emailed to the designated recipients. Individual responses remain confidential; the report combines all responses into a single organizational assessment.
The report identifies organizational strengths, areas needing attention, and opportunities for future improvement. Conducting the assessment annually also allows your board to monitor progress over time.

Interpreting the Board Governance Report
The summary report includes two scoring metrics: the Raw Average and the Adjusted Average.
Raw Average
The Raw Average is the simple arithmetic mean of all survey responses, providing an overall view of all responses, including those marked as non-applicable or uncertain.
Adjusted Average
The Adjusted Average measures only governance performance ratings (1-3).
